The Motherboard is the main part of your PC & everything that your PC needs to function is fitted to this circuit board. The Motherboard allows data to be transferred to and from the "brains" of the computer - the Processor. As PC's evoled over the years, more and more peripherals have been fitted "onboard" as opposed to the older approach which was to fit various expansion cards.

Modern Motherboards will have onboard sound, hard disk drive controllers, USB controllers, network interfaces, graphics controllers and more. The Motherboard is also often known as: System Board and / or Main Board.
